How Custom Packaged Pools Are Installed
Looking for a backyard pool that fits your space, style, and budget? A custom packaged pool—like the steel wall vinyl liner pools we offer at Water City Pool & Spa—is one of the most flexible options available. These pools are fully customizable and designed to deliver years of reliable performance with a tailored look that suits your home.
Here’s a breakdown of how we install custom packaged inground pools:
1. Planning & Design
It starts with your vision. Our team will work with you to choose the pool shape, size, and depth that best fits your yard and lifestyle. Custom packaged pools allow for features like built-in steps, tanning ledges, and seating, so we’ll design a layout that checks all your boxes. Once the design is finalized, we take care of permitting and preparation for the build.
2. Excavation & Site Prep
Once the layout is marked, we begin excavation based on the exact dimensions of your pool. We carefully shape the hole to match the pool’s contours—including shallow and deep ends if applicable. After excavation, we prepare the base with materials like sand or stone dust, ensuring a level, compacted surface for installation.
3. Assembling the Steel Wall Panels
Next, we install the steel wall panels that form the perimeter of the pool. These panels are bolted together and anchored into place to create the shape of your pool. Steel walls are known for their strength and durability, making them ideal for long-lasting, structurally sound installations—even in Wisconsin’s shifting seasons.
4. Plumbing, Electrical & Bracing
We install all necessary plumbing lines for filtration, returns, and any extras like water features or in-floor cleaning systems. Electrical work for pumps, lights, and automation is completed by licensed professionals. We also add bracing to the walls and reinforce corners for added stability.
5. Concrete Footer Pour
To lock the steel walls in place, we pour a concrete footer around the entire perimeter of the pool. This anchors the structure, prevents movement, and forms a solid base for the pool deck to sit on.
6. Pool Base & Liner Installation
After plumbing and structural components are complete, we finish shaping the bottom with a pool base material—typically a sand and cement mix or vermiculite. Once smooth and level, we install your custom-fit vinyl liner. The liner is vacuumed tightly into place and carefully adjusted to ensure a wrinkle-free, secure fit.
7. Backfilling & Equipment Setup
We backfill around the exterior of the pool with gravel or other suitable material while filling the pool with water. At the same time, we set up the pump, filter, and any additional features like heaters, salt systems, or lighting controls.
8. Decking & Final Touches
After everything is operational, it’s time to finish off the pool area. Whether you want concrete, pavers, or decorative decking, we’ll complete the surroundings to match your vision. Landscaping, fences, and accessories can be added at this stage too.
