Frequently Asked Questions
What electrical requirements do I need for my spa?
Please contact your dealer for the exact breaker size in accordance with your hot tub model. Our spas would require a 50A or 60A load center GFCI with a 4-wire hook-up – 2 hot, neutral, and ground. They should be run on a 6AWg wire.
What are some things I should keep in mind when selecting a location for my spa?
Place your spa on a surface that is large enough to fit the entire unit. The spa must be on a solid, leveled foundation. We recommend the use of a 4-inch cement slab seasoned for at least 72 hours. This is very important as your warranty will be voided if the spa is not properly installed. Structural damage due to an improper foundation is not covered under warranty.
There are separate requirements for INDOOR spas and OUTDOOR spas. Refer to your Owner’s Manual for instructions on installation.
Who should hook up the electrical supply to my spa?
A qualified licensed electrician. Failure to have this done can result in the termination of all warranty coverage and also create an extremely dangerous bathing environment. When installing your hot tub, it is a good idea to have the electrician on site in case any problems arise and for your own safety.
How should I fill my spa?
Use a hose to fill your spa (detailed instructions can be found in your Owner’s Manual). DO NOT fill your spa with hot water straight out of your water heater or tap. This water may be as hot as 180 degrees F and will cause damage to the surface and plumbing of the spa.
Do I need to treat the water of my spa?
YES. Water from your tap is fine for showers, bathing, and drinking. However, in a contained recirculating system such as in a spa, water must be treated with chemicals. The main purpose of chemical treatment is to keep the water sanitary and to maintain a specific balance of the water. Important safety instructions can be found in your Owner’s Manual.
What should I set my filtration cycle to?
This depends on your spa model and time of year. Below are our general recommendations.
- Artesian Elite, TidalFit, Island Spas, & Island Spas Elite
In the cooler months, run the filtration cycle 12 hours twice a day. In the warmer months, we recommend setting it to run 84 hours twice a day. Please have Filter Cycle 1 start at 8:00 am & Filter Cycle 2 start at 8:00 pm.
- South Seas Spas
We recommend having this filtration cycle set to run for 4 hours, twice a day, all year long. Please have Filter Cycle 1 start at 8:00 am & Filter Cycle 2 start at 8:00 pm.
- Garden Spas
We recommend having this filtration cycle set to run for 2 hours, twice a day, all year long. Please have Filter Cycle 1 start at 8:00 am & Filter Cycle 2 start at 8:00 pm.
How do I winterize an Artesian spa?
We do not recommend winterizing your hot tub as all of our spas have built-in safety features to protect them from freezing. However, if you insist on winterizing, we recommend having it done professionally by your local Artesian Spas dealer or service center!
How often should I clean my filters?
We recommend that they be sprayed off a minimum of once a month and replaced at least once a year.
Do I need to drain and clean my spa?
Yes. Just like any other appliance, your spa needs to be drained, cleaned, waxed, and refilled.
We recommend doing this about every six months.
